Frequently asked questions

Do you visit my dog’s daycare centre?

I am currently working with Citidogs, Sal’s Pals and Barklay Park. If your dog attends another daycare centre in Edinburgh & the Lothians then please get in touch and I can try to arrange visits!

How will I know when you’re visiting my dog?

I’ll have scheduled visits to your daycare on a regular basis which I will let you know in advance via the calendar . If you’re away on holiday I will make sure you have your dog’s parasite treatment in advance and re-arrange any vaccinations if due.

Are you RCVS registered?

Yes, The Daycare Vet is an RCVS registered practice. You must also be registered with a local in-person veterinary practice in case your dog needs more complex treatment or any operations. If you are not currently registered with a practice I also work at Westport Vets which has branches in Edinburgh, South Queensferry and Linlithgow.

Do you work with all local vets?

I work with many local practices in the area including local mobile vets. When you sign up I will get in touch with your current vet to get your dog’s clinical history and set up open lines of communication between us to ensure streamlined care.

I am already signed up for a health plan with my vet - why should I change?

It’s great that you are already being proactive in your dog’s health! The Daycare Vet offers many of the same benefits with the added convenience of me coming to your dog! If you would rather stay on your current vet’s plan you can still use The Daycare Vet for appointments in between with the pay-as-you-go option.

What do I do if my dog needs treatment between visits?

If your dog needs veterinary attention please contact your usual vet for an appointment. For emergency treatment options click here.

Is the health plan the same as insurance?

No, the health plans are for routine and preventative health only which are not covered by insurance. I recommend you buy pet insurance to cover any unexpected vet bills as they can be very costly at any age.

What treatments are included?

Vaccinations: I use Canigen DHPPi (protects against distemper, hepatitis and parvovirus), L4 (protects against the four strains of leptospirosis present in the UK) and KC (protects against Bordetella bronchiseptica and parainfluenza virus). This vaccination programme means that the distemper, parvovirus and hepatitis vaccine is given every 3 years, while the leptospirosis and kennel cough vaccines are given every year.

Parasite treatments: I always want to reduce my environmental impact which is why the standard parasite treatments are in tablet form as this reduces contamination of waterways. Flea treatment is recommended year-round as they can carry tapeworm and be very difficult to eradicate from your home if your pet does get an infestation. Worming regularly is recommended as not only can they make your dog ill but they can cause illness in people, especially children or immunosuppressed individuals. Other treatments for lungworm and ticks depend on your dogs lifestyle so I will assess this when you sign up.

If you feel strongly about using or not using a particular product or if you would rather titre test or do worm egg counts get in touch and I can try to accommodate you, although these changes may incur an additional charge.

How do I cancel my plan?

Please contact me if you have any problems with my service or if you would like to cancel. If you are moving daycare centres I may be able to visit you in your new location. Please see T&Cs for further information.
